The Rock is the only decent pub out in the far Eastern mires of Kemptown. It is snugly situated opposite the I Go Inn (of which you Do Not Go In...) and is split over three levels - comfy ground floor with two separate areas: normal tables and a carpeted lounge area with old style leather chairs. There is a basement which is fairly cavernous and has a great deal of atmosphere. First floor houses what can only be described as a large lounge with 2 pool tables and other table games (and darts) and windows and doors that are openable, overlooking the back garden. It is a functionable pub and suffering I think from its far flung location. The food when last sampled was good fayre and the place a quiet and comfortable niche housed at the very borders of Kemptown and Whitehawk. Great place for pool competitions and if necessary, with prior discussion with the management, they will reduce the customary £1 per game, to free play for a larger fee. Which of course, works out cheaper. Good pub.
