The Hand is one of Kemptown’s hidden gems. It is tiny – granted and gets full very quickly – granted and is patronised by a clique of very local locals – granted, but – it serves some of the best bitters this side of Bitterville. Recently taken over by Matt, the pub has seen a revitalisation on a humongous scale – it’s really a top notch place to crack a pint or a few. There’s an upright piano that is often opened and played, home-brewed bitters from the micro brewery upstairs and pickled eggs. So – there’s no food, but, that’s not what it’s about – it’s about a local pub that is open, freiendly and welcoming to all and sundry. It’s also the historical finish line of the London to Brighton cycle ride. Recommended.
