Someone recommended The Hop & Vine to my husband and I, and we both agree that we really wish we hadn't have bothered. It's the coldest, dingiest, muckiest "pub" (if you can call it that) that we have ever visited.

A local newspaper proclaimed that they "made the best sandwiches in town", well they were stale and hard, and Hull is a city! The ale was warm and cloudy, so I asked for an expensive lager, which the moody barman begrudgingly changed for me after arguing some silly point. The lager was frothy, and only half the glass was liquid! He tutted, and mumbled under his breath and said he'd bring it across. Some 5 mins later he brought it to our table (which didn't look like it'd be cleaned for weeks) and it was flat. We left unhappy, and told the rest of our group who were due to join us later not to bother. In a better pub, later on that evening, we found out that the locals call it "Slop and Grime", and I for one can see why!
