This place wants a very good clean. dirt and grime all over the pub. behind the bar looks like its not been cleaned in years.

the ale selection was good and the beer was average.

I totally disagree with 'TED' and his comments. I have been going in the city arms for nearly 14 years now and if anything the beer quality and service has improved. To add to Teds complaint about the beer, the staff have always offered apologies and changed a pint if it has tasted a little 'iffy' (which i might add has rarely happened to myself)and lets face it no-one is perfect. As i work in the city centre i frequent the city arms on a daily basis. I have also eaten here on a number of occasions and find the food to be of very good standard (homemade and not tv dinners)!

I am now the wrong side of 50 but still find that the barstaff and landlord (all being a few years younger than myself) provide a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, which is more than can be said for alot of the other pubs in Manchester. I'm sure most people will agree, the city arms is a must for any real ale/traditional pub enthusiast.

But i suppose everyone is entitled to there own opinion!

i was a regular at the city arms until recently. the city arms has to say the least gone down hill. they have 7 diffrent beers on and Tetleys as standard. they are not cleaning there lines when putting a diffrent ale on. (so you can taste the previous bitter in the new ale) not very good! shame..... i hope it improves.
