The Tavern has been around for years and it’s pretty much remained the same. I have a bit of a love / hate relationship with it, as it was always close to work, but we always preferred The Ranelagh (and they don’t do any food!). Thing is, The St James’ thinks it’s better than it is. And it ain’t. Don’t get me wrong – it’s a perfectly nice boozer, a little shy on beers, but ok… It’s busy, crowded, the Thai food is an absolute boon for lunchtimes and early evenings and the positioning of the place is great. Also – it boasts masses and masses of bourbon – top work. It’s just that it knows all of this and has rested on its laurels because of it, subsequently being overtaken by other pubs willing to put the effort in. Disappointed, but still well worth a Crawl Pint.
