Visited The Lab in Glasgow last night with two female friends. Just chatting and being very sensible..asked for a jug of water at the bar to dilute our wine..shared a bowl of nachos at 10pm..etc etc. One of my friends had a glass of wine when we first arrived then decided to change to gin and tonic. Later on this was to prove a problem. Two of us still had wine to drink and my friend went to the bar to purchase a last gin and tonic for our other friend before we went for our trains. She was refused service by the barmaid called Laura, because we had been mixing our drinks. People sitting around us were astonished and one lady even went to the bar to ask Laura why she had not served us. Two tables along a big group of ladies were noisy and drinking spirits, wine, beer and shooters. They were served no problem. They were in their twenties. We are all around fifty. Shame because it was a nice little pub, spoiled by an over zealous member of staff. Ageism is alive and kicking at The Lab.
