The customers let this place down - staring at strangers, throwing things at you if you dare to use the pool tables.

Shame, as the staff were always friendly enough.

The very few women who are brave enough to enter are as bitchy as teenage girls, orange, and toothless. The few that are not, have only come in on rare occasions with their husbands which are daily regulars and look absolutely petrified to even speak. No wonder the male to female ratio is roughly 20:1.

The Hikers Rest Pub is an absolute dive and I would recommend getting an STI test after using their toilets, better yet - intense therapy.

The truth is that the awful atmosphere means that if you are: a girl (up for grabs: stares, derogatory comments), not white, a stranger, you looked at someone's cousin funny once (he said - she said concept here!), gay/lesbian (DIFFERENT), go to university or have any sense of aspiration you will be treated like you are absolute scum.

I have wasted months working here being polite and respectful to the very rude customers and owners, hoping it would be retuned, even just the once, to no avail. So much for treat people how you would like to be treated hey, a lot of the people here must be aware, deep down, of their crappy low life-aspirations and so try to better themselves by putting down others.

Visited on Saturday 29th July 2011, prior to the BHA match at the Amex. Friendly bar staff, doormen checked we were local - no problems - will be there prior to the next 23 league games this season.

I wouldn't recommend this pub to anyone who doesn't look like they should be on jeramy kyle. It is full of wannabe thugs and petty criminals who size you up as soon as you walk throuh the door. However it has two pool tables and a nice outside smoking area, also the barstaff are friendly- shame i can't say the same about the clientele. Would recommend to football yobs and people looking for a fight.

This pub is nothing like previous reviews. It has pool teams, darts teams, good food. They raise a lot of money for various charities including sending boxes of goodies over to our troops in Afghanistan. If you think that is a shit hole then some people are very shallow minded. The pub is run by a husband and wife team with 2 small children so they stand no nonsense. Just being re-furbished for the new stadium.
