I've recently been in the dolphin and can honestly say it's like a completely different pub the new landlady is very welcoming and they have also opened the lounge which is very clean and is very relaxing.they have also started serving food which I don't think they have ever done and I can honestly say it is very nice and affordable all the staff are very friendly.I think people need to stop thinking about how it used to be and give it a chance they will be very surprised I was.

new landlords are due to take over in late August 2010 - Sian and Wez from the canley area they have some great ideas for the Dolphin, including removing the old dated furnishings and redecorating the place to give a more modern feel, come along late August early Septmeber and check out the changes to the Dolphin you wont be disapointed.

The Dolphin has and always will be a working mans pub - expect to see the same faces in for a few after work pints during the week. Occasionally there will be a disco on the weekend which tends to attract a younger crowd but in this day its to be expected in order to keep the place afloat I imagine.

New management taken over late last year and they seem to be really trying to make a go of the place - a few family fun days (although not really a kid pub I certainly wouldnt take mine in there.

The decor is a little dated - if the area is being re-generated I think it will be time to refurb the pub or see it gone alltogether - but I expect thats down to the locals continuing to support it.

All I can say is the beer is excellent, you will never be made to feel uncomfortable. Give it a try and make your own choice DO NOT listen to rumors and stories of years gone by they are far from accurate.

i go in on rare occasions nowadays as it is always dead and is pretty well run into the ground by its current landlord. as well if youre not local you will soon feel uncomfortable enough to walk back out...never to return. the purpose of the pub is simply to get as drunk as possible, visually it looks worse than a 70's community centre (just a rectangular shape), with about 3 tables located at the edge near the window. there are no furnishings, coves, pub memorabillia (execpt a couple of ancient and decaying ccfc f.a cup posters) and a picture of "baz" (a local canley mascot). the dolphin indeed had its good days years back ,enjoying all sorts of acts, quizes,dj's,live music, fights (joke)and thats how a lot of folk will want to remember it. like an old banger,(that was once a sports car),thats barely road legal and ticking over..is probably the best way to describe "the dolphin".
