I've been drinking in this pub for decades because its near where I live. I'm no longer a student - I'm 60. Its sad because there's this assumption that by putting in a lot of consumer electronics and big screens, and narcisistic singing on the screens, played loud, that people will be drawn in. The result is that no one who lives nearby ever comes in any more (at least at the time I'm there) so there is no sense that this pub is a place that a community meets - which used to be what pubs were all about. Bal who runs the pub has got a good chef who can cook a very good curry but I have this sense that he doesn't really respect his customers - he has a line in humour that subtly runs you down. The result is that if you drink in there you feel that your self respect is compromised. That's sad but I've pretty much had enough now. Time to move on.
