I'm not from Oxford but I've been here a few times and would reccommend it to people visiting. The half moon is a small friendly pub with great atmosphere and one of the only pubs in Oxford where you can be chatting to strangers within minutes of entering the place. It gets quite crowded late at night (as it's one of the only pubs in the area to stay open so late), especially if there is music, but great for a quiet evening drink or a last one on the journey home. It draws a mixed crowd from locals who have been frequenting for years to students and tourists passing through.

I can only imagine that the somewhat affected descriptions on behalf of the reviewers below are the result of one experience. For my part, the only times I have only seen staff approaching being 'rude' or 'unpleasant' is when they are dealing with excessive drunkenness and loutishness.

EXTREMELY RUDE BAR STAFF. Unpleasant atmosphere and unfriendly environment. This pub is dirty inside and the service is appaulling. Would definately not recommend this pub to friends visiting Oxford as it leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. Paying customers are not made to feel welcome at all and we waited ages to be served. The food was disgusting aswell.

Appaulling pub probably the worst in Oxford I have ever been into. Very rude bar staff agressive and extremely rude to payng customers. It was very dirty and small inside. It felt very uncomfortable and unpleasant. I will never be going back there. Food was appalling and there were lipstick staines on the glasses as they had not been washed properly.
