Very handy that connection to the basement of the CU building, when other pubs turned you away on the last drinking day before Christmas, we could still get into the Underwriter via the underground link. Handy for taking beers back to the office - only done that once, we had a festive bottle of whisky, but the manager didn’t drink whisky, so 2 of us nipped through and brought him back a couple of pints. What is it now?

I worked for Commercial Union in 1976 and I'm sure this pub had a tunnel to the CU building because I've got a vague memory of stumbling along it at the Christmas parties.

hadnt been to this place for a long time- saw the sign outside under new management and decided to take a look. its been newly refurbished. complete change from before. clean and smart- no dirty glasses anywhere to be seen. the bar staff were freindly and attentive- the were serving other people but still took the time to acknowledge me.

Being a guinesss drinker, your never sure how its going to turn up to you-however the guinness was perfect- probably the best have had in the city for a long time- poured corretly- left to settle ( unlike some other pubs)- a prefect pint

no food, but from talking to the staff i understand that this starts 10th jan- will def be back !!!
